Live Baccarat: Players, Bankers, and the Number 9

You can’t develop a potentially winning live baccarat strategy without understanding the rules. Although this game isn’t as popular or simple as blackjack, it’s a great card game once you grasp the basics. It might seem more complex than other card games because of the drawing conditions: the table dynamics dictate how and when cards are drawn from the deck, but Baccarat isn’t actually a complicated live casino game.

The aim of the game is to bet on one of three outcomes: Player Win, Banker Win, Tie. A win means the hand that’s closest to 9. Each hand is made up of two cards, initially.

Under certain conditions, the two hands are compared and the one closest to 9 wins. However, the player and the Banker can receive extra cards in an effort to improve their hand.

Live Baccarat Casino Drawing Conditions

Once you’ve made a bet, two cards are dealt to the Player and the Banker. What happens after that depends on the value of each hand:

No Draw

A draw doesn’t take place if either hand (Player or Banker) has a two-card total of 8 or 9 points. The hand that’s closest to 9 wins. Additionally, if the Player hand makes 6 or 7 points, they don’t receive extra cards.

The Player Draws

If the Player hand is between 0 and 5 points, they draw a card, unless the Banker hand is 8 or 9 points.

The Banker Draws

If the Player doesn’t draw and the Banker hand is between 0 and 5, they draw a card. If the Player doesn’t draw and the Banker has 6 or 7 hand, they stand.

If the Player draws, the Banker’s next move is based on the value of the Player’s third card:

  • When the Banker's hand is 0 to 2, they draw; when it's 3-7 and the Player receives an 8 on their third card, they stand.
  • When the Banker's hand is 0 to 3, they draw; when it's 4-7 and the Player receives a 9, 10, face card or Ace on their third card, they stand.
  • When the Banker's hand is 0 to 4, they draw; when it's 5-7 and the Player receives a 2 or 3 on their third card, they stand.
  • When the Banker's hand is 0 to 5, they draw; when it's 6-7 and the Player receives a 4 or 5 on their third card, they stand.
  • When the Banker's hand is 0 to 6, they draw; when it's 7 and the Player receives a 6 or 7 on their third card, they stand.

The good thing about playing live baccarat online at William Hill is that all of the drawing conditions are handled by our dealers. All you have to do is pick the Player, the Banker, or a tie.

Player and Banker wins are worth 1X your bet, while ties are worth 8X or 9X, depending on the variant. A 5% commission fee is applied to Banker wins. This is because, statistically, the Banker hand is more likely to win than the Player hand.

Live Baccarat Online: William Hill Classics

The next thing to cover is the ways you can play live baccarat dealer games. We don’t offer live baccarat demo tables. However, you can watch things play out in real-time.

Naturally, you can’t win by watching, but you'll get a feel for how these games work. After watching a baccarat live stream, you can play for real money in the following ways:

Exclusive WH Baccarat Tables

Our selection of live exclusive tables includes classic baccarat, speed games and high stakes action at the Salon Privé tables. Our William Hill live baccarat tables are made exclusively for our community, so you’re guaranteed the best experience possible.

Live Lightning Baccarat

This is part of Evolution’s Lightning series. A 20% fee is applied to your bet but you could unlock prize multipliers worth between 2X and 8X. Once you’ve locked in your bet, between 1 and 5 cards will be selected at random and given a multiplier. If one of these cards is part of a winning hand, your payout will be boosted by the multiplier.

Live Baccarat Squeeze and Control Squeeze

Suspense is a major part of baccarat. The process of revealing cards and drawing adds an element of drama to proceedings. Our live baccarat squeeze tables capture this drama using 15+ camera angles.

Live No Commission Baccarat

This variant removes the 5% commission fee that you normally pay on Banker wins. The only exception to this rule is when the Banker scores 6. In this instance, the returns on a winning bet are reduced to 0.5X.

Live Speed Baccarat

The dealers at these tables work at a faster rate than their counterparts. In fact, they’re able to race through betting rounds at almost twice the speed. By dealing the cards face-up instead of face-down, they’re able to forgo the suspense of squeezing and peeking at cards. This means it takes around 27 seconds to complete a round instead of 48.

Live Dragon Tiger

Dragon Tiger is a faster, simplified version of live baccarat. An average round takes 25 seconds, and the aim is simple: bet on the Dragon or the Tiger. Each hand receives one card and the highest wins. Standard payouts are 1X, but you can bet on a tie or other special combinations and win payouts ranging from 11X to 50X.
